Artist's
Statement: I work with a variety of media
with a particular interest in print making and sculpture, and I don't go far without colored pencils. I save and use my own images in an assembly and collage process, and enjoy the layering and combining intrinsic to print
making. I
appreciate the element of surprise, and rarely make a detailed
plan. I try to balance the need for control, which requires technical
skill and practice, with a sense of play and joy when I work.
I
make art to satisfy myself, but my art is certainly a form of expression.
I want to communicate the sense of mystery and delight I feel when I look at the world. I hope to capture your eye and mind, and to take you to a different
place for a moment. |

Background:
I have always been immersed in art; my grandfather was a painter by profession and I liked to draw as a child. However I did not enjoy art classes, came to dislike drawing for a time, and abandoned a college art major for computer science. "Making things" still happened, but as a weekend hobby until I moved to Port Townsend in 1998, when making art became a pleasurable daily activity.
I have benefited from many regional art classes as well as two months of painting and sculpture in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I am a member of Corvidae Press, a fine arts printmaking guild, and I enter my work in regional juried art shows.
Since
1998 I have somewhat overcome my dislike for art instruction, and
benefited from many regional art classes and workshops as well as
two months of painting and sculpture in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Press, a fine arts printmaking guild, and I am a regular
volunteer at Northwind
